Obituary: Gordon Payovich

July 19, 1948 – October 12, 2023

Gordon PayovichGordon Payovich, age 75, of Dyer, IN, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 12, 2023. Devoted and loving husband for 50 years to Kathleen Payovich, nee Sobczynski. Cherished and doting father to Steve (Jennifer) Payovich, and Kristen (David) Popiolek. Proud grandfather (Grampy) of Robert, Reid, and Tyler. Brother to Peter Payovich. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chad and Genevieve Payovich.

Gordon was a remarkable individual, known for his intelligence, generosity, passion for cars, love of dogs, playing the bass guitar, and being an avid Cubs fan.

His knowledge was so vast and varied, you could go to him with any question, and he’d be ready with an answer.

Throughout his life, Gordon touched the hearts of many with his kind and giving nature, always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family.

His expertise in fixing cars was unparalleled, and he could tackle any automotive challenge with skill and dedication. He was often found in the garage working on the race cars with his son.

Gordon had a special bond with dogs and spent countless joyful moments in the company of their many rescues.

He also had a love for music, particularly the bass guitar, which he played with enthusiasm. He shared his love of music with his daughter and taught her how to play.

If the Cubs were playing, he was watching, whether it was at home with his wife, or enjoying an outing to Wrigley dipping his peanuts in beer.

Gordon will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he left behind.

Guitars, Cadillacs, Hillbilly music.

May he rest in peace.
