Obituary: Darlene Uhter

June 23, 1934 – May 30, 2023

Darlene UhterDarlene Uhter, nee Sparks, was born June 23, 1934 and was called home on May 30, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Dwight L. Uhter Sr. Loving mother of David (Keli) and the late Dwight Jr. (Joy). Cherished grandmother of Noah, Kailey, and Shelley. Dear sister of the late Wanda (late Tom) Mrozek. Devoted Foster mother of Gene Miller and his former wife Debbie and children Jason and Matthew.

Darlene was a former school bus driver for Kickert Bus Lines for many years. She was a long-time member of Dyer Presbyterian Church and was an avid gardener and canner. Darlene, along with her husband, was a co-founder of Paws Critter Crossing, a safe haven for injured or abandoned wildlife and also a sanctuary for farm animals and domesticated wildlife.

Visitation Friday June 2, 2023, from 3 – 8 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN. Funeral service Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Anderson officiating. Interment Lowell Memorial Cemetery – Lowell, IN. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Paws Critter Crossing would be appreciated.
