Obituary Eugene Furtek

Eugene Furtek was born on June 21, 1934, in Chicago, IL, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 15, 2023, in Lansing, IL. He was preceded in death by his son Robert Scott Furtek, his sister Sandra Grutzius, and his parents Joseph and Gertrude Furtek.

Eugene is survived by his loving wife Naomi (nee Sass) Furtek, cherished sons Timothy and Charles Furtek, step-son Brian McClanahan; children from his second marriage to Goldie: Desiree (daughter), Joseph (son), Patrick (son), Alvera (daughter); Evonne Sheree (daughter) from his first marriage to Linda (nee Harris); brother Joseph Furtek and sister Rose Marie Wegrzyn. He is also survived by many loved nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and friends.

Eugene graduated from Chicago Vocational School, with a focus in Radio. He loved competitive cycling in his youth, including serving as one-time president of the Pedal Pushers of Chicago. He served in the United States Air Force between 1956 – 1960, where he achieved the rank of airman 2nd class and played the glockenspiel in the Drum and Bugle Corps. For most of his career, he was employed as a senior design draftsman in several industries. His passion for computers and electronics continued outside of work, and he could always be found tinkering with computers at home. He served as an elder at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lansing, IL, where he enjoyed playing dartball and camping with friends and family. Eugene also had a passion for cars, and especially enjoyed talking about the many sports cars he owned over the years. He was extremely outgoing and had a great sense of humor. He loved striking up conversation with strangers, making friends wherever life took him. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, and will be greatly missed by all.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church, 18100 Wentworth Ave, Lansing, Illinois, at 11:00 AM, with a short visitation from 10:00 AM until time of service with Pastor John Richy officiating. Mr. Furtek will be laid to rest at Oak Glen Lutheran Cemetery in Lansing, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lansing, IL.
