LANSING, Ill. (March 4, 2024) – It was just over two years ago that The Lansing Journal invited readers to submit weather-related photos to be included in the daily weather post. Over the subsequent months, more than 40 people have had weather photos published in the Daily News.

Now those digital shutterbugs have an opportunity to be appreciated in the physical world. The Lansing Public Library is hosting an exhibition of their work on the green gallery wall on the second level.

“We’re pretty excited,” said Library Director Lisa Korajcyk, who promoted the weather photo gallery in her January Inside Lansing interview with LNN:

The exhibition, titled “Lansing through the Seasons,” will showcase 24 photos — 2 from each month of the year — by 24 different photographers.

The works of art will be installed on March 6 and will remain in place through March, April, and May.

Showcasing local photographers – and local weather

The Open House, scheduled for Monday, March 11, will be the first opportunity for the photographers to see their own work in enlarged print formats. The event is open to the public from 5–7 p.m. At 6 p.m. (note: updated time) a short presentation will explain how the 24 photos were selected from the hundreds that have been submitted over the past two years. The library will provide light refreshments during the Open House.

Patrons will be allowed to purchase the gallery exhibits from The Lansing Journal on a first-come-first-served basis either during the Open House or by emailing [email protected]. The $100 price per item covers production costs of the pieces and also helps The Lansing Journal continue publishing local photography and other news. Purchased items must remain on display until the weather exhibition is deinstalled at the end of May.

The Lansing Public Library is located at 2750 Indiana Avenue. The gallery wall is on the second level, south of the stage area.
