MUNSTER, Ind. (February 13, 2024) – Residents are invited to journey across millennia with Dorothy Graden’s “Somewhere in Time” exhibit at South Shore Arts, on display in the Atrium Gallery through February 25. With an artistic career spanning over 30 years, Graden finds her inspiration in the prehistoric art of the Americas.
This exhibit allows the public to explore Graden’s connection with ancient visions and preserving these sacred ancestral sites. Her personal experiences, including global travels and a recent trip to the Masai Mara in Kenya, contribute to the art on display by influencing her palette with the colors of the savannah.
Graden employs a distinctive technique in her art by manipulating cotton rags in her paper studio, allowing the artwork to emerge organically. As a contemporary artist, Graden finds inspiration in extensive research, hiking through deserts in various U.S. states, and scuba diving globally, including in the Fiji Islands, Hawaii, the southern Caribbean, and Mexico.
Notably, Graden’s fieldwork on rock art has been shared at institutions worldwide, including the Russian Academy of Science in Moscow, University College Cork in Ireland, and the University of Innsbruck in Austria. Beyond presenting and lecturing, she showcases her drawings and ceramic sculptures at various venues across the Midwest and the Chicagoland area.
