MUNSTER, Ind. (January 24, 2024) – South Shore Arts invites art connoisseurs, residents, and everyone in the neighborhood to the opening of South Shore Arts exhibit “Neighbors” running through March 16, 2024.
Linda Dorman and Tom Torluemke curate the exhibit and present a captivating collection of artists, including Kevin Blake, David Decesaris, Ashley January, Tim Lowly, Mary Porterfield, Maria Villarreal, Roman Villarreal, and Gwendolyn Zabick. Each artist brings forth rich influences and experiences, contributing to exploring relationships and society. Their complex backgrounds add depth and nuance to the exhibit, offering viewers a profound and thought-provoking journey into our “Neighbors.”
Dorman and Torluemke articulate the themes as “Highlighting figuration, it’s about individuals we walk by, see from a distance, or lend a helping hand. The purpose is to inspire an appreciation for the concept of neighbors, from next door to other countries, continents, and beyond; we’re all in this together.”
An Artist Panel Discussion is scheduled for Saturday, February 17, from 1 – 3:30 p.m. The event will provide a unique opportunity to explore the exhibit’s narratives in greater depth.
“Neighbors” stands out for its celebration of the unique perspectives within communities, highlighting the beauty of their differences. The exhibit blends paintings and sculptures, forming a rich mosaic that captures and honors the unique beauty ingrained in each community.
“Neighbors” has been carefully designed to nurture inclusivity and connections, promoting understanding among its diverse audience and offering a captivating cultural experience for Northwest Indiana.
