Local Voices: Trivia Night 2024 will raise money for D215 scholarships

-

Submitted by Joe Stephan

During the 2022-23 school year, the Executive Board of the Thornton Fractional Teachers Union AFT/IFT Local 683 authorized the creation of the IFT Local 683 Education Foundation NFP. It was founded by T.F. South teachers Tim Sullivan, Jaimie Metoyer, and myself.

As a 501(c)3 charitable organization, the IFT Local 683 Education Foundation NFP aims to raise money in order to assist students facing food insecurity as well as to provide scholarships to District 215 students looking to enter the field of education.

We are currently planning our inaugural event, Trivia Night 2024, which will be held on Saturday, March 2, from 6 – 10 p.m. at Kasey’s Banquet Hall in Lansing. Teams of 8 can purchase a table for $240. The cost of the table includes pizza and an open bar. There will also be a variety of raffles to help raise funds for our scholarship program. The Champions of Trivia Night 2024 will be announced around 9:45 p.m. and will win a trophy that was donated by the Lansing Sport Shop.

Trivia Night 2024 is open to the public, but tables are selling fast. Interested organizations, businesses, and individuals can contact us at [email protected].

All proceeds from Trivia Night 2024 will provide scholarships to D215 students continuing their education to become teachers. Information on how to apply for these scholarships will be made available this spring, and the winners will be announced at the end of the second semester.

A second fundraising event is being planned for the fall in order to raise money for the District’s student funds. The social workers at each campus use these funds to assist students facing food insecurity and/or homelessness.

We can be found on Facebook @Local 683 Education Foundation and on Instagram @local_683_education_foundation.

Please feel free to stop by on March 2. The doors will open at 6 p.m. The first round of trivia should start at 7:15 p.m.

Sincerely,
Joe Stephan, Executive Director
IFT Local 683 Education Foundation NFP
