Lansing Crossing gets residents in the holiday spirit with patio decoration contest

LANSING, Ill. (December 25, 2023) – Leasing officials encouraged tenants at the Lansing Crossing apartment complex to get in the holiday spirit by organizing a friendly competition. Tenants were asked to come up with creative and out-of-the-box patio decorations for a chance to win a prize.

The contest took place on December 21 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.

The Lansing Crossing apartments, previously known as Salem Crossing, have been around since the 1970s, organizers said.

The contest is a part of the building leasing team initiative to get the residents “involved in fun activities.”

“Everybody is getting into the holiday spirit here,” said Wendy Cusick, Property Manager at Lansing Crossing Apartments. “We are bringing fun into the community.”

Cusick says many residents were happy to participate in the competition and put in a lot of effort decorating their patios.

A person with no direct connection to the property was required to judge the patios to keep the competition fair. Therefore Cusick asked Russ Staley, Village of Lansing Code Inspector, to be the judge.

Staley, accompanied by the Lansing Crossing leasing team, spent over 30 minutes walking around the property to get a look at the various patio decorations before the winners were chosen.

Cusick personally called the winners to come to the management office to claim their prizes.

Gail Neely’s winning design gained her a $25 gift card and the title of third place in the competition. Her patio consisted of a variety of Christmas icons including Santa Claus, candy canes, snowmen, and snowflakes.

Initially, there were supposed to be three winners but Cusick added a fourth winning spot after the the Comcast rep for Lansing Crossing donated a special prize.

Brandy Maddox came in fourth place and was the lucky winner of a portable heater/AC unit. She designed her patio with blue lights instead of traditional Christmas colors.
