Obituary: Byron A. Cooper

April 23, 1937 – November 1, 2023

Byron A. CooperByron A. Cooper, age 86, of Dyer, IN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2023. Loving husband of Romona A. Cooper, nee Gonzalez. Devoted father of Tod (Debbie) Cooper, Crystal (Tom) Sklivas, Garry (Sherry) Cooper, Barry (Sharon) Cooper, and the late Brian Cooper; step-father of George (Tammy) Tommasi. Proud grandfather of Christina, Maria, Alex, Damon, Ashley (Chad), Daniel, Allison, and the late Jeremy; great-grandfather of Nick, Jeremy, and Zachary; great-great-grandfather of Anthony. Dear brother of Clarence (Reba) Cooper, Francis (late Rita) Cooper, Larrid “Tiny” (Cathy) Cooper, Cherry (late Earl) Whitney, Robert Cooper, Rhonda (David) Bradigan, late Wayne (late Jeannie) Cooper, late Candice (William) Jones, and the late Chrystal Cooper; half-brother of Martin Cooper, and the late Daniel Cooper. Kind uncle and great-uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Byron R. and Elsie Mae Cooper.

Byron was a dedicated 42 year employee of Ford Motor Company, and was Local #551 Union President for many years. Byron was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Visitation Tuesday, November 7, 2023, from 3 – 8 p.m. Funeral service Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN, with Rev. Devin Cook officiating. Interment Assumption Cemetery – Glenwood, IL.
