Obituary Susan Carlson

Susan Kay Carlson (nee Nystrom), age 80, of Lansing, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. She is survived by her two daughters: Lisa (Ted) Massey and Donna (Mark) Even; loving grandchildren: Adam (Melissa) Massey, Alex Massey, Lilly (Kyle) Even-Wegner, and Becca Even; great-grandson Liam Massey; loving grand-dogs: Charlie and Tipper Massey; great-grand-dogs Scout Massey and Po Even-Wegner; and great-grand-lizard Thor Even-Wegner. Mrs. Carlson is also survived by sister Kristine (Jon) Ubbelohde; brother-in-law Ron Howes; nephews and nieces: Peter (Tammy) Ubbelohde, Andrew (Emma) Ubbelohde, Ken (Jennifer) Newberry, Dan Newberry, Kristen Newberry, and Augusta (John) Buscemi. Susan was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Larry, of 52 years; parents Russell and Marion Nystrom; sister Jeannie Lundsgaard; and sister-in-law Elaine Howes.

Susan was a retired secretary for McKinley Junior High School in South Holland, committed to organization and excellence. Susan and Larry enjoyed traveling to many places including Aruba, Alaska, the Caribbean, and northern Wisconsin. In the warm weather, Susan enjoyed spending time on her backyard deck surrounded by abundant flowers. Researching family genealogy was a passion she pursued with fervor. Susan loved gathering with her family and friends to share a meal and play games. Rummikub and Mexican train were two of her favorites. She also loved going to the casino and playing cards.

Friends are invited to visit with Mrs. Carlson’s family on Sunday, November 5, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Schroeder Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, in Lansing. Services will be held at 4:00 pm at the funeral home, with Pastor John Richy officiating. Mrs. Carlson will be laid to rest on Monday, November 6, at 10:30 am at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Lansing. Many people were blessed by her generous heart. Susan was loved by many and will be truly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association.
