Air quality forces cancellation of Mt. Zion’s Wednesday Food Pop-Up

LANSING, Ill. (June 27, 2023) – The usual Wednesday morning Food Pop-Up hosted by Mt. Zion UFL has been cancelled this week in response to the Air Quality Alert issued by the National Weather Service. Smoke from wildfires in Canada has moved into the region, casting a haze over Lansing that can be dangerous for groups sensitive to particulates.

Mt. Zion’s Betty Burley shared news of the cancellation on Facebook, explaining, “We do not want anyone sitting for a few hours outside waiting or driving thru. We have a lot of elderly who come thru for the pop-up as well. So for the sake of everyone’s health and wellbeing the Pop-Up Pantry is cancelled here tomorrow, Wednesday, June 28.”

The Wednesday Pop-up was included in the June 26 edition of “Things to do in Lansing this week,” and we have now updated that listing to indicate the cancellation.

As of this writing, Mt. Zion is still planning to host the Thursday Food Pop-Up at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 29.

Mt. Zion UFL Center is located at 2340 177th Street in Lansing, Illinois. Information about the food giveaways is updated on Facebook: facebook.com/groups/zionpopuppantry.
