Obituary: Alyda VanSchouwen

Alyda VanSchouwen, nee Zeldenrust, age 93, of St. John, IN, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Beloved wife of the late Marshall VanSchouwen. Loving mother of Marilyn (Arthur) Meinema, Jacob (Linda Meppelink) VanSchouwen, Marvin (Laurie Huizenga) VanSchouwen, Nellie (Daniel) Bultema, and Grace Leep. Cherished grandmother of Wayne and Michelle (Masten) Meinema, Karen (Meinema) and Bill Diephuis, Renee (Meinema) and Tom Stilson, Dale Meinema, Valerie VanSchouwen, Brent and Suzanne (Walstra) Van Schouwen, Loren and Donna (Schmidt) Van Schouwen, Bruce and Rachel (Brooker) Van Schouwen, Jeffrey and Sandi (Solle) Bultema, Rose Ann (Bultema) and Jeremy Breuker, Westley and Susan (Scheeringa) Bultema, Glenn and Kyle (Juzwicki) Bultema, Christina VanSchouwen, Jennifer (Van Schouwen) and Kraig VanHouten, Marshall and Nicole (Mosbaugh) VanSchouwen, Katherine (Van Schouwen) and Joshua Williams, Michael and Pamela (Zuchowski) VanSchouwen, Garrett and Carin (Riley) Leep, Susan Leep, and Matthew Leep. Great-grandmother of 41 grandchildren. Preceded in death by her siblings Coba Huizenga, Kaya VanderWall, Nellie Smit, Rena Ooms, Hilda Bultema, Peter Zeldenrust, and Neil Zeldenrust; and by parents Henry and Grace Zeldenrust. Marshall and Alyda farmed all their life. She loved being in the field and loved her flower garden. Alyda was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

Visitation Tuesday, December 7, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until time of the Funeral Service at 12:00 noon at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Ln, Dyer, IN. Interment Oak Ridge Cemetery – Lansing, IL. Memorial contributions to Munster Church Legacy Fund (214 Ridge Rd, Munster, IN 46321) or Elim Christian Services (13020 Central Ave, Crestwood, IL 60418) are greatly appreciated.
