Exhibit coming to SSC’s Thiel Gallery

SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. (February 2, 2021) – The Art & Design Department of South Suburban College is pleased to present an exhibition entitled “Victoria Loeb–Paintings & Drawings” on display in the Dorothea Thiel Gallery from February 22 – March 18.
Mystery intrigues Victoria Loeb and is always present in her work. In her paintings, she tries to focus on what is suggested instead of interpreting the most evident, what appears to be the subject. Loeb wishes to emphasize the experience between the artwork and the observer. As in literature, one must give in to the game that the work proposes. To look at it not intellectually, but with innocent eyes, since it is not a rational experience, but a sensitive and emotional one.
Victoria Loeb was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 1992 she met Argentine artist Alicia Maffei, her first mentor in the arts, and worked as her drawing assistant from 1996 to 1999. She was accepted at the Fine Arts Institute Prilidiano Pueyrredon, receiving a Master’s Degree in Drawing. She has studied under Argentine artist Miguel Ángel Bengochea, and later attended the studio of contemporary artist Eduardo Médici. Her artworks are exhibited in private and public collections in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Germany, and the United States. She moved to Chicago in 2003. Loeb now primarily shows her work and teaches in the Chicago area, and for the last five years has established a studio in Evanston, Illinois.
The Dorothea Thiel Gallery is located on the fourth floor and is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The galleries are closed on weekends and holidays. The galleries are supported in part by the SSC Foundation.
