Obituary: Anita J. Slager

October 28, 1939 – April 29, 2024

Anita J. Slager Anita J. Slager, age 84, of St. John, IN, formerly of Chicago, IL and DeMotte, IN, entered her eternal life on April 29, 2024. She was born on October 28, 1939 to the late Henry and late Hendrika Boonstra in Chicago, IL. She was married to her loving late husband of 62 years, William (Bill) Robert Slager. Mother of Gregg (Sue) Slager, Michael (Sally) Slager, Randy (Brenda) Slager and Jill (Jeff) Nikkel. Grandmother of Megan (Nolan) Hudson, Todd (Brittany Justice) Slager, Eric (Ashley) Slager, Nancy (Nate) Jones, Jordan Nikkel, Jocelyn Nikkel, Kyle Slager, and Justin Slager. Great-grandmother of Ray Jones, Micah Slager, Knox Slager, Wren Slager, and Harper Hudson. Sister of Eva (Don) Evenhouse. Aunt of two nieces and one nephew.

Bill and Anita met at Chicago Christian High School in 1956 and they were married on June 6, 1958. They spent the early years in Chicago where she was a homemaker and spent time raising their three boys. After moving to DeMotte IN and Jill’s birth, she began interior decorating for friends and family before opening her store Town and Country Interiors which she ran for many years. She enjoyed traveling across the country in their RV with her husband, spending time over the years at their homes in Gun Lake, MI and Tucson, AZ, playing pinochle with friends, quilting and mission work. She was loved by many and will be missed.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 p .m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN with Pastor Dan Bloesch officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Illiana Christian High School, The Luke Society, or World Renew. For further information please contact 219-322-7300.
