TF North, South, and Central share February highlights at District 215 board meeting

CALUMET CITY, Ill. (February 28, 2024) – The District 215 Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, February 27, included building reports from the principals of the four schools comprising the district.

Brian Rucinski, principal at TF North, gave a quick rundown of the following activities at his campus:

  • A TF North junior on the wrestling team made it to state-level competition.
  • Five drama students who had auditioned for the national August Wilson Monologue Competition advanced to the semi-finals.
  • CBS2 spent about 12 hours on February 27 at TF North filming outstanding students.
  • Thirteen young men participated in Lunch with a Leader. “It’s an outstanding opportunity for our young men, to have that experience sitting at the table with leaders around Chicago,” said Rucinski.
  • Black History Month activities culminated with an “incredible” assembly featuring student talent.

Jacob Gourley, principal at TF South, reported the following February highlights:

  • The TF South dance team placed first at the state tournament.
  • The Jazz Ensemble was the featured performance at the South Suburban Conference Jazz Conference.
  • The Black History Month assembly on February 23 featured the Jesse White Tumblers.
  • Varsity girls bowling won the SSC Conference championship.
  • Five members of the girls wrestling team advanced to sectionals, and three made it to state.
  • Girls basketball won the SSC Blue Conference championship for the third consecutive year.

Raymond Williams is principal of the TF Center for Academics and Technology as well as the TF Center for

  • Alternative Learning. His report updated the board on the following February activities:
  • Chef Parker took students on a cultural excursion to the Museum of Science and Industry, where they learned about food sourcing and the farm-to-table process.
  • Students from both automotive programs attended the Chicago Auto Show.
  • A group of students visited the Dusable Museum as part of a cultural excursion.

In addition, students from TF North attended the February 27 meeting to ask the board to make AP Calculus a dual credit class. And the District 215 IT Department was spotlighted for the important role they play in using technology to enhance education throughout the district.

District 215 regular meeting schedule

The D215 Committee of the Whole meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. and Regular Board meetings are generally held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. Meetings are held at the TF Center for Academics & Technology, located at 1605 Wentworth Avenue, Calumet City, Illinois.
