Local Sierra Club to present ‘Food Waste and Composting Solutions’

Monday, December 11, 2023, at 7:15 p.m. via Zoom or in person at Frankfort Public Library

CHICAGO, Ill. (December 5, 2023) – “Everyone wants to help the planet,” says the Sauk-Calumet Group of the Sierra Club. The club will present a program at their December meeting that highlights two practical steps for doing so: reducing food waste and practicing composting.

“One third of all the food raised or prepared in the U.S. does not make it from farm or factory to fork,” says the program description. “The food we waste worldwide contributes 4.4 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent into the atmosphere each year — about 8 percent of total world greenhouse gas emissions.”

The program, hosted virtually and in-person on December 11, will share strategies for reducing food waste at home and for making compost a regular home routine.

The in-person meeting will be held at the Frankfort Public Library, located at 21119 Pfeiffer Road (corner of Pfeiffer Rd. and Rt. 30), about a mile east of LaGrange Road on Rt. 30 in Frankfort, Illinois.
