Video: T-shirts, hoodies, mugs, and more — why The Lansing Journal opened a Shop

Can a merch business support a news business? We think it’s worth a try

LANSING, Ill. (September 15, 2023) – Why is The Lansing Journal selling t-shirts? Two reasons:

  1. We want to give more people more ways to support the work we do for our community. Every purchase from our shop provides a few more dollars we can use to report, publish, and deliver local news.
  2. We couldn’t find Lansing merch anywhere else, so we decided to create our own!

In this week’s video Josh and Melanie provide a show-and-tell of just a few of the items in The Lansing Journal Shop:

Want to buy the samples (and support The Lansing Journal)?

Now that Josh and Melanie have finished making the video, many of the items they showed are available for purchase. (Some they plan to keep for themselves!) Send an email to [email protected] to tell Melanie which ones you want:

  • Proud to be from Lansing Illinois t-shirts (all are size L)
  • Clock Tower long-sleeved tee (size L)
  • Lansing Journal mug (11oz)
  • Common Ground mug (11oz)
  • Life in Lansing photo book

Other samples might be available too, and more items in more colors and sizes are available in The Lansing Journal Shop:

Want to help?

Whenever you purchase something from The Lansing Journal Shop, you can help us by taking a photo and sharing that on your social sites. That way, you’ll be spreading the word to your friends and folowers, reaching people that we don’t know yet. Thank you!

You can also send your photos to us, so we can publish them on our sites as a fun addition to the news we share throughout the day.

Thank you, from Josh and Melanie

This merchandise is another new experiment we are trying in order to keep growing The Lansing Journal so we can keep serving our community. We appreciate the support you have already shown! It is encouraging to be part of a community that is willing to go along with us as we keep learning and trying new things. As always, feel free to communicate with us any problems you have with ordering, any ideas you have for new merch, and any questions you have about the results of this experiment.
