George D. Modory, age 71, of Thornton, IL, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 28, 2023. Loving husband of Janice M. Modory, nee Nowatski. Devoted father of Steven (Jamie Hogan) Modory, Leslie (Trent) Godfrey, and the late Michael Modory. Proud grandfather of Mitchell John Godfrey, Jacob Daniel (Erin) Godfrey, and Gavin James Godfrey; great-grandfather of Wilks, Shepard, and Palmer Kate. Dear brother of Christiana (late Richard) Heideman, Mary Coffman, Gabrielle Smiley, late Celeste Hanley, late Michelle Modory, and the late Margaret (late James) Babiazar. Kind uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Steven and Gwen Modory.
George loved the Bears, was a White Sox fan, enjoyed bowling, motorcycles, and cars, was a self taught musician, and was an artisan of his meat cutter trade. George was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all.
Visitation Friday, July 7, 2023, from 3 – 8 p.m. with a prayer service to be held at 6:30 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN, with Deacon Gary Blue officiating. Memorial donations to the American Legion 109 William Street, Thornton, IL 60476, appreciated.
