Obituary: John Patrick Brennan

March 10, 1954 – June 24, 2023

John Patrick Brennan John Patrick Brennan, age 69, of Dyer, IN, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 24, 2023. Beloved husband of Karen Brennan, née Prystalski. Devoted father of Bridgett (Francesco) Sessa, John Paul (Molly) Brennan, Jacqueline (Joe) Bruzek and his late infant son Matthew. Proud grandfather of Francesco Leonardo and Sophia Sessa, John P. and Amelia Brennan, Zoe and Eloise Bruzek. Dear brother of Maureen Rupert, the late Edward D. Brennan, and late Darlene Owen. Loving son-in-law of Leonard and the late Carole Prystalski. Cherished uncle, favorite brother-in-law and friend to many. Preceded in death by his parents Edward and Dorothy Brennan. John will be dearly missed.

John loved his wife and his family and was happiest when spending time with his adult children and grandchildren. He enjoyed hosting parties and welcomed all with affection. He had a great ability to make everyone feel at home. His quick wit, sense of humor, and easy smile will be missed. John was kind, empathetic, and instinctively knew what was needed to bring comfort. He was a hard worker, respected by his peers and proud of his accomplishments. He loved reading, the beach, grilling, and his dogs, especially Morris. John touched many lives, and will live in our hearts forever.

Memorial visitation Wednesday, June 28, 2023, from 3 – 8 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN. Prayer service Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. from Smits Funeral Home to St. Joseph Catholic Church 440 Joliet St. Dyer, IN, for 10:30 a.m. Memorial Mass with Rev. Fr. Jay Finno officiating. Inurnment Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery 801 Michigan City Rd. Calumet City, IL.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s name may be given to Dunes Hospice Foundation. This foundation helped John get back to his beach house one last time this past Father’s Day. We will be forever grateful for the memories we were able to make together.
