Obituary: John B. Kos

June 16, 1943 – June 19, 2023

John B. KosJohn B. Kos, age 80, of Dyer, Indiana (formerly of Chicago, Illinois) passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 19, 2023. Beloved husband of Joanne M. Kos, nee Pompa. Loving father of Amanda (Roberto) Gomez, the late Jana Kos Ferguson and the late Michael Kos; and godfather of Tiffany (Jason) Nowicki. Devoted grandfather of Emma, Zach, Tristan, Gavin, Giuliana, Sophia, and Mateo. Dear brother of Carole (Bob) Hanus, Beverly (John) Scheer, and Robert (Cynthia) Kos; and uncle to Craig (Elizabeth) Kos, Robert (Danielle) Kos, Tyler (Becky) Kos, Rob Hanus, Cheryl Davis, and Sandra Hanus. Godfather to 11 including Kim, Jen, Mandy, Christina, Pauly, Tristan, Gavin, Giuliana, Jim, Michael, and John.

John was a U.S. Army Vietnam War Veteran and a proud Purple Heart recipient. He had a thriving career in data center consulting. After retirement, he split his time between the Midwest and Tucson, Arizona. He loved boating, golf, travel, and the Chicago Cubs. He was loved by many and will be missed.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 2 – 4 p.m. with a memorial service to be held at 4 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN. Inurnment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery – Elwood, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund would be appreciated.
