President Preckwinkle invites public to local Juneteenth Celebration

Saturday, June 17, 10:15 a.m., at Sand Ridge Nature Center

SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. (June 13, 2023) – Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle will preside over an opening ceremony for the 10th annual Juneteenth Celebration at Sand Ridge Nature Center & Campus. Preckwinkle, who is also president of the Forest Preserves of Cook County, will be joined by Forest Preserves General Superintendent Arnold Randall and other elected officials.

The opening ceremony will conclude with the singing of ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing,’ and a preview of the day.

During the Juneteenth Celebration, attendees can enjoy a variety of activities at Sand Ridge Nature Center. Drop-in programs at the nature center include guided walks, artmaking with tie-dye and creative reuse materials, displays, and trivia.

By registering beforehand, attendees may also participate in a program called Self-Love in Nature: Gentle Yoga, Inner Light Meditation, & Painting. That program will run from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Green Lake Woods.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Camp Shabbona Woods, attendees can enjoy a cultural dance and drum performance presented by the Najwa Dance Corps.
