The Lansing Journal journeys: The Great River Road

-

submitted by Rich Schaeffer

Human Relations Commissioner Rich Schaeffer took The Lansing Journal on his motorcycle trip along the Great River Road, a collection of roads that follow the course of the Mississippi River through 10 states—Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Along the way he snapped a few photos:

Metropolis, Illinois, is home to Superman. (Photo taken by a couple from southern Indiana)
Still on the Great River Road, Schaeffer stopped at the Vicksburg National Military Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi, for a photo near the Illinois State Memorial, which is one of the 1,325 historic monuments and markers in the park. The photo was taken by Kala Bates on 9-11; she is a Vicksburg resident running 111-steps to honor Patriots Day. “We swapped photo ops,” said Rich.
