Obituary Corrine Smith

Corrine Hope Smith (née Gordon), 94, of Dyer, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her home on January 20, 2024, with her family by her side. She is survived by her loving children: Linda (Frank) Hobart of Chattanooga, TN; Carol (Robert) Seeman of New Lenox, IL; Ellen Valovcin (Jerry) of Hixson, TN; Peggy (Ernie) Demeter of Melbourn, FL; Dawn (Carl) Hoeksema of Glenwood, IL; and Joseph Smith II, with whom she resided until her passing in Dyer, IN. Corrine was a cherished grandmother of 14 and great grandmother of 25. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews. Corrine was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Joseph Edward (2001); a 5-month, pre-born baby boy; brothers Harold and Donald Gordon; and sister Mary Ellen Knight.

Corrine was a member of Glenwood Bible Church in Glenwood, Illinois, for most of her life and served as a Sparks Club Director in the AWANA children’s ministry there for many years. She also spent many years teaching children’s Sunday School classes.

Friends may visit with the family at the Village Church, 14849 W. 93rd Street, Dyer, Indiana, on Monday, January 29, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Services will begin at 5:00 PM with Pastor Steve Miller officiating. After the service friends are invited to visit with the family until 8:00 PM. Corrine will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations should be made in her honor to her beloved church of 50+ years – Glenwood Bible Church, 201 W Main St, Glenwood, IL. Corrine was loved by many, and she will be deeply missed. Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements and care of Corrine.
