Angelique Carrillo honored as District 158 ABCDE Award winner

LANSING, Ill. (January 20, 2024) – The District 158 School Board recognized Angelique Carrillo with the second ABCDE Award of the school year.

Short for “Above and Beyond the Call of Duty Every day,” the award is given to “celebrate the Lansing community, its outstanding citizens, and unsung heroes of our District,” according to the District 158 website.

Carrillo, who started as a paraprofessional at Lester Crawl Primary Center, is now is the Parent Educator.

At a last week’s School Board meeting, Board President Mary Kelly read the following statement in celebration of Carrillo:

Angelique Carrillo started at Lester Crawl Primary Center as a paraprofessional and is now the Parent Educator. She goes above and beyond the call of duty every day and is always helping students, staff, and families – making everyone feel accepted, important, and safe.

Mrs. Carrillo has streamlined the registration process for new incoming Pre-K students and takes time out of her day to help Spanish speaking children. She makes visuals, provides verbal support, gives staff strategies, and shows kindness beyond expectations.

As the mother of four children who attend Lester Crawl, Coolidge Elementary School, and T. F. South High School, Mrs. Carrillo can often be seen with her husband Joel setting up for Parent Cafes and fixing pancakes for the students and staff. She is very creative – setting up bulletin boards, balloon arches, and decorations that bring joy to everyone – and acts as a conduit to the community through her role as Parent Educator, continually helping families to find resources like access to education, help with utility bills, and food services.

Mrs. Carrillo is a gem of Lansing School District 158 and we are very lucky to have her as a part of our family!
