Things to do in Lansing this week – December 4 edition

LANSING, Ill. (December 3, 2023) – The items listed below are public events compiled from a variety of community sources. They represent a diversity of ways to be involved this week.


Monday, December 4

Christmas Around the World

Time: Various

Location: Lansing Historical Society Museum, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing.

This annual exhibit shows over 30 Christmas trees and highlights holiday traditions from around the world. It’s open through January 6, but is closed on December 23 – 25, and December 30 – January 1. The exhibit is open Monday – Thursday, 6 – 8 p.m. and Saturdays, 12 – 3 p.m.

Fox Pointe Daily Tree viewing

Time: 3 – 8 p.m. from December 3 – 30 (weather permitting)

Location: Fox Pointe, 18138 Henry Street, Lansing

Fox Pointe Holiday trees will be on display throughout December. The new light show will only be available through December 10. Fox Pointe will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.


Tuesday, December 5

Coffee Break

Time: 10:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Made with our French press, enjoy the freshest coffee around for free. Join us for a chat or grab and go!”

Gentle Tai-Chi and Meditation

Time: 12 – 1 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Community Room, 2750 Indiana Avenue.

“Start your afternoons strong with the right mindset. Instructor Brian Thompson from BNew4Life teaches gentle Tai-Chi & Meditation to help you stay focused, alert, and anxiety free!”

Anime Club

Time: 4 – 5 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Teen Island, 2750 Indiana Avenue.

“To Weeb or not to Weeb?…that is the question. Learn some Japanese and discuss animes you’ve never heard of!” For grades 6–12. Register here.

Lansing Village Board meeting

Time: 6 p.m.

Wednesday, December 6

Pop-up pantry

Time: 9:30 a.m.

Location: Mt. Zion UFL Center, 2340 177th Street, Lansing (708-394-3555)

Mt. Zion UFL Center partners with Illinois Partners In Hope to distribute a variety of donated food once or twice a week. These pop-up pantries are open to anyone, and no ID is required.

Crochet & knitting group

Time: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Bring your own supplies and learn some techniques from this talented group!”

Crumpled paper stained glass art

Time: 4 – 5 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Teen Island, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Design your own paper stained-glass artwork. You have creative control of the designs and colors you choose. The possibilities are endless!” For grades 6–12. Register here.

Homebuyer’s seminar with Signature Realty Services

Time: 6 – 7:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Community Room, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Holiday photo shoot and workshops

Time: 4 – 7 p.m.

Location: TF Center, 1605 Wentworth Avenue, Calumet City

Free 5×7 holiday photos will be offered at the event, as well as two workshops: “Self Care for Adults” by Urban Male Network, and “Financial Literacy” by When Girls Get Together. Cookies and cocoa will also be available. This free event is open to all District 215 families. Register here.

Heritage Middle School holiday band concert

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: Heritage Middle School, 19250 Burnham Avenue

The concert will also be live-streamed on District 171’s YouTube channel.

Free ‘n Fun Bingo at Kasey’s

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

“Folks can play in the lounge or restaurant and it’s completely free. Prizes are awarded to the winner of each bingo game. Food is available for purchase.”

Thursday, December 7

Trivia at Kasey’s

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Trivia with Nick At Night Entertainment happens every week on Thursdays. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Nick will start the show around 7 p.m.

Friday, December 8

Holiday book bash

Time: 1 – 2 p.m.

Location: Lansing Library, Community Room, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Celebrate the season with a literary-themed holiday party! Join the members of the library’s discussion groups for fun and games as well as light refreshments.”

Library@Nite: Dave Rudolf’s Completely Cracked Christmas

Time: 6:30 – 8 p.m.

Location: Lansing Library, stage, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Dave Rudolf is a long-time performer and a multi-award-winning singer/songwriter who just released his 43rd Album …He’s a Gold Record, Grammy-nominated artist. Completely Cracked Christmas is one of his top-selling albums as it hits those notes and has humor!” Doors open at 6 p.m.

Holiday Wine Tasting

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Pour on Roy are collaborating to bring a holiday wine tasting event to the Lansing community. For $30, participants will sample six wines, enjoy a charcuterie board, and be treated to live holiday music. Ticket’s available at Pour on Roy or Kasey’s.

Santa House open

Time: 6 – 8 p.m.

Location: Fox Pointe north lawn, 18138 Henry Street, Lansing

Families are invited to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and share their wish lists.

Holiday movie marathon

9:30 a.m. – The Snowy Day

10:15 a.m. – Elf

12 p.m. – Charlie Brown Christmas

12:30 p.m. – Muppet Christmas Carol

2 p.m. – Frosty the Snowman

2:30 p.m. – Santa Clause

“Bring your own lunch. Limited hot cocoa and cookies will be available.”

Book sale – $10 fill-a-bag

Time: 10 – 1 p.m.

Location: Lansing Library, Book Sale Room, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Friends Members Access 9-10am. Memberships available for purchase at the door. General Public 10am-1pm. $10 Fill-A-Bag Sale; one bag per person.”

Santa House open

Time: 12 – 3 p.m.

Location: Fox Pointe north lawn, 18138 Henry Street, Lansing

Families are invited to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and share their wish lists.

Soup & Salad at FUMC

Time: 5 – 7 p.m.

Location: First United Methodist Church, 18420 Burnham Avenue, Lansing

This soup and salad dinner is $10 by calling 708-474-1144, or $12 at the door. All are welcome.

Jayme Jay Meyer at Kasey’s

Time: 7 – 10 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing
