Things to do in Lansing this week – November 13 edition

LANSING, Ill. (November 12, 2023) – The items listed below are public events compiled from a variety of community sources. They represent a diversity of ways to be involved this week.


Monday, November 13

Spice Club

Time: All month long

Location: Lansing Library, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

The online description for this program says, “Spice up your cooking! Register each month to receive a sample of a new spice along with an info card, delicious recipes, and more. Pick up at the Info Desk. Please register for each month separately.”

Lan-Oak Park District Board meeting

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Location: 2550 178th Street, Lansing

The Lan-Oak Park District Board will meet to discuss and decide on business concerning Lansing’s parks. Read the agenda here.


Tuesday, November 14

Coffee Break

Time: 10:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Gentle Tai-Chi & Meditation

Time: 12 – 1 p.m.

Free blood pressure and glucose screenings

Time: 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Municipal Center, 3141 Ridge Road, Lansing

The Lansing Fire Department will offer monthly health checks on the second Tuesday of each month at the Lansing Municipal Center.

Library teen volunteer orientation and training

Time: 4 – 5  p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Discovery Quarters
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to learn about volunteering at the Lansing Library. Register here.


Wednesday, November 15

Pop-up pantry

Time: 9:30 a.m.

Location: Mt. Zion UFL Center, 2340 177th Street, Lansing (708-394-3555)

Mt. Zion UFL Center partners with Illinois Partners In Hope to distribute a variety of donated food once or twice a week. These pop-up pantries are open to anyone, and no ID is required.

Crochet & knitting group

Time: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room

“Bring your own supplies and learn some techniques from this talented group!”

eBook Publishing

Time: 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room

Light Painting

Time: 4 – 5 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Teen Island

“Light painting photography catches the movement of light during a long-exposure photo shot. In short, we need a smartphone, a flashlight, and a dark room to create the stunning light ‘paintings;. We’ll give you some tips and tricks to create these spectacular paintings with your phone.” For students in 6–12th grade. Register here.

District 158 Board meeting

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: 18300 Greenbay Avenue, Lansing

The District 158 Board will meet to discuss and decide on business concerning its five schools.


Thursday, November 16

Korean Culture Club

Time: 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Teen Island, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Back by popular demand! Make photocards of your favorite K-Pop stars, sample Korean snacks, and way more!” For students in grades 6–12. Register here.

The Lansing Public Library Board meets monthly on the third Thursday of each month.

Trivia at Kasey’s

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Trivia with Nick At Night Entertainment happens every week on Thursdays. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Nick will start the show around 7 p.m.


Friday, November 17

Karaoke with Joe Sibley takes place every week on Fridays at Kasey’s Banquet Hall.


Saturday, November 18

District 215 Thanksgiving dinner

Time: 2 – 4 p.m.

Location: TF North, Upper Cafeteria, 755 Pulaski Road, Calumet City
