Things to do in Lansing this week – October 30 edition

LANSING, Ill. (October 29, 2023) – The items listed below are public events compiled from a variety of community sources. They represent a diversity of ways to be involved this week.


Monday, October 30

Life-size Candyland

Time: 6 – 8 p.m.

Location: Lansing Library, Youth Department, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Start down the road and find yourself in new and exciting places like the Lollipop Forest and Gumdrop Mountains. Collect tasty treats and sweet surprises as you race to reach King Kandy’s Castle! Costumes are encouraged.”


Tuesday, October 31

Coffee Break

Time: 10:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Made with our French press, enjoy the freshest coffee around for free. Join us for a chat or grab and go!”

Trick-or-Treating

Time: 4 – 7 p.m.

Location: Village-wide

4 – 7 p.m. are the official Village trick-or-treating hours.

Trunk or Treat

Time: 6 – 8 p.m.

Location: Grace Church, 2740 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

The public is invited to Grace Church’s Trunk or Treat event on Halloween.


Wednesday, November 1

Pop-up Pantry

Time: 9:30 a.m.

Location: Mt. Zion UFL Center, 2340 177th Street, Lansing (708-394-3555)

Mt. Zion UFL Center partners with Illinois Partners In Hope to distribute a variety of donated food once or twice a week. These pop-up pantries are open to anyone, and no ID is required.

Crochet & Knitting Group

Time: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Bring your own supplies and learn some techniques. This is not a library-sponsored group, but it meets in the library’s Brick Room.


Thursday, November 2

Lansing Christian School McTeacher Night

Time: 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Location: McDonald’s, 17810 Torrence Avenue, Lansing

Lansing Christian teachers and staff will be serving McDonald’s Apple Pies throughout the night, with 100% of pie proceeds going to Lansing Christian, and 20% of all food sales going to the school. Pies are cash only.

Trivia at Kasey’s

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Trivia with Nick At Night Entertainment happens every week on Thursdays. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Nick will start the show around 7 p.m.


Friday, November 3

Crochet & Knitting Group

Time: 9:30 – 12 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Bring your own supplies and learn some techniques. This is not a library-sponsored group, but it meets in the library’s Brick Room.

Senior Bingo

Time: 1 – 2 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Community Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Seniors who like to play bingo and win prizes are invited to the Library’s Senior Bingo event.

Super Teci benefit dinner: “Fighting for her Future”

Time: 5 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

The local community is invited to come out and support the Avila family as they seek to raise money for their 9-year-old daughter’s next stem cell treatment. For more details, including how to buy tickets, click here.


Saturday, November 4

Hendrix Effect at JJ Kelley’s

Time: 8:30 p.m.

Location: 2455 Bernice Road, Lansing

Listen to the Hendrix effect cover some of Jimi Hendrix’s best albums. There is a $10 cover charge.

Daylight Saving Time ends
