Monday, October 16

Book tasting

Time: 4 – 5 p.m.

Location: Lansing Library, Teen Island, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Looking for a new favorite read? Join us for a sophisticated afternoon of book swapping and light refreshments.” This event is for students in grades 6 – 12. Register here.

District 171 School Board meeting

Tuesday, October 17

Coffee Break

Time: 10:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Made with our French press, enjoy the freshest coffee around for free. Join us for a chat or grab and go!”

Super Smash Bros. tournament

Time: 3:30

Location: Lansing Public Library, Teen Island, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Show us your moves in Smash Ultimate, tournament style. Who will come out on top? Who will win?” This event is for students in grades 6 – 12. Register here.

Nigerian Independence Day and Heritage Night

Time: 5 – 7 p.m.

Location: Nathan Hale Elementary School, 19052 Burnham Avenue, Lansing

This Nigerian heritage event is the school’s first.

Lansing Garden Club

Time: 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Community Room, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

The Lansing Garden Club meets on the third Tuesday of every month at the Lansing Library. Newcomers are welcome.

Village of Lansing Board Meeting

Time: 6 p.m.

Wednesday, October 18

Pop-up Pantry

Time: 9:30 a.m.

Location: Mt. Zion UFL Center, 2340 177th Street, Lansing (708-394-3555)

Mt. Zion UFL Center partners with Illinois Partners In Hope to distribute a variety of donated food once or twice a week. These pop-up pantries are open to anyone, and no ID is required.

Crochet & Knitting Group

Time: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Bring your own supplies and learn some techniques. This is not a library-sponsored group, but it meets in the library’s Brick Room.

Senior VR Exploration

Time: 1 – 2 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Community Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Want to play Golf, canoe, build 3D puzzles, travel to famous places around the world? Get a first-hand preview of the latest high-tech virtual reality experience, and experience the future!” Learn more by watching The Lansing Journal’s video on the Library’s VR options.

Decorate your own tote bag

Time: 4 – 5 p.m.

“Are you looking for a tote bag that screams you? Then why look for one when you can just make it. Bring your idea to life using our supplies, or get inspiration from others. Let your creativity shine as you decorate a canvas bad using fabric markers, paints, stencils, and the Cricut designs.” Register here.

DIY Paper Squishies

Time: 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

“Stuff, Squish, and Squeeze your own adorable paper squish toys! You’ll be shocked how easy it is to make them!” This event is for students in grades K – 5. Register here.

Lansing Library Board meeting

The Lansing Library Board meets on the third Thursday of each month.

Trivia at Kasey’s

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Trivia with Nick At Night Entertainment happens every week on Thursdays. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Nick will start the show around 7 p.m.


Friday, October 20

Senior Bingo

Seniors who like to play bingo and win prizes are invited to the Library’s Senior Bingo event.

Kasey’s Oktoberfest

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Tickets are $35 per person and include an all-you-can-eat German buffet, a four-hour open bar, and entertainment by “authentic German band The Deutsche Meister’s.” Advance tickets recommended: 708-895-7720.


Saturday, October 21

Lansing shredding event

Time: 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Location: Lansing Municipal Center, parking lot

Village residents needing to securely destroy sensitive documents are invited to come to the Village’s shredding event, sponsored by Montana and Welch LLC and Homewood Disposal. Residents can bring up to three boxes of documents per vehicle. Vehicles must display current village stickers.
