LANSING, Ill. (October 8, 2023) – The items listed below are public events compiled from a variety of community sources. They represent a diversity of ways to be involved this week.


Monday, October 9 – Indigenous Peoples’ Day / Columbus Day

The Power Within

Time: 4 – 5 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Teen Island, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

For grades 6–12: “Engage your neuroplasticity. Grab hold of your growth mindset. Enter the new school year with a renewed point of view.”


Tuesday, October 10

Coffee Break

Time: 10:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Made with our French press, enjoy the freshest coffee around for free. Join us for a chat or grab and go!”

Free blood pressure and glucose screenings

Time: 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Municipal Center, 3141 Ridge Road, Lansing

The Lansing Fire Department offers monthly health checks on the second Tuesday of each month.

Solar Eclipse Information Session

Time: 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

In anticipation of the upcoming solar eclipses, make sure you know everything you need to by joining us for this information session.”

Thornton Township Board meeting

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: 333 E. 162nd Street, South Holland

Wednesday, October 11

Pop-up Pantry

Time: 9:30 a.m.

Location: Mt. Zion UFL Center, 2340 177th Street, Lansing (708-394-3555)

Mt. Zion UFL Center partners with Illinois Partners In Hope to distribute a variety of donated food once or twice a week. These pop-up pantries are open to anyone, and no ID is required.

Crochet & Knitting Group

Time: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Bring your own supplies and learn some techniques. This is not a library-sponsored group, but it meets in the library’s Brick Room.

Mi Casita Bilingual Program

Time: 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Engage your kids in an enriching bilingual experience. Participants will be reading a book in Spanish and English followed by a fun activity. Register here.

Thursday, October 12

Fabulous Fall Flowers

Time: 4 – 5 p.m.

Location: Lansing Pubic Library, Teen Island, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Missing the library garden? Come ‘grow’ a Teen Room garden! You’ll learn how to make flowers with tissue paper, napkins, and tons of glitter!”

Lansing Human Relations Commission meeting

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: Lansing Pubic Library, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

The Lansing Human Relations Commission meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month.

Trivia at Kasey’s

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Trivia with Nick At Night Entertainment happens every week on Thursdays. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Nick will start the show around 7 p.m.


Friday, October 13

Crochet & Knitting Group

Time: 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room

Make It! Craft: Brown Sugar Scrub

Time: 1 – 2 p.m.

“Interested in making your own beauty supply? This will be the perfect craft for you! Brown Sugar scrubs are great for the skin, easy to make, and smell great!”

TF South football home game

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: Padjen Field, 18500 Burnham Avenue in Lansing

Long delayed, the debut of the new field at TF South will come on Friday as the Red Wolves take on Oak Forest. The game will be South’s only home contest of the season.

The Nightmare Before Christmas on the Library lawn

Time: 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Attendees are invited to bring their own chair or blanket to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas on the library front lawn. The movie is rated PG, with some scary images, and has a runtime of 1:15. Families are encouraged to dress for the weather, which may be chilly.

Kasey’s Karaoke

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Karaoke with Joe Sibley takes place every week on Fridays at Kasey’s Banquet Hall.


Saturday, October 14

Library book sale

Time: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Friends of the Lansing Library members have access to the sale at 9 a.m.

Jayme Jay Meyer at Kasey’s

Time: 7 – 10 p.m.

Location: 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Live music returns to Kasey’s with Jayme Jay Meyer, who performs the music of Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, Frank Sinatra, and more.
