LANSING, Ill. (September 21, 2023) – The Lansing Fire Department will kick off the 2023 Fire Prevention Week with an open house on Saturday, October 7.
Families and community members are invited to visit Fire Station 29, at 19300 Burnham Avenue, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to meet with firefighters, have fun, eat lunch, and learn more about the department and fire prevention.
The 2023 theme for Fire Prevention Week is “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention.”
Festivities for the open house include a bouncy house, face painting, giveaways and drawings, prizes, a live burn demonstration, a helicopter landing, fire truck tours, and more. All activities and food are free.
“We look forward to this event every year,” said Lansing Fire Chief Chad Kooyenga. “Fire Prevention Week gives us a chance to engage with the residents of Lansing in a relaxed environment, giving residents an up-close look at the department and the services we provide. More importantly, it gives us a chance to discuss fire safety and ways to implement it in the home.”

Is Station 29 the same as Station 3?
Yes, the name was changed a few years ago. We mentioned it in this story: https://thelansingjournal.com/2019/12/16/lansing-fire-station-receives-structural-and-aesthetic-updates/ but I don’t think we ever reported specifically on the name change.
