Steven DeYoung’s leopard photo wins second place in mammal category
THORNTON, Ill. (September 20, 2023) – Over 700 photos were submitted as part of Brookfield Zoo’s 2023 photo contest. One of those was submitted by Steven DeYoung, a resident of Thornton.
On Tuesday, Brookfield Zoo announced the winners of the annual contest, including DeYoung, who earned second place in the mammal category for his photo of a leopard.
According to a press release from Brookfield Zoo, “A panel of professional photographers judged the photos and selected the grand prize winner as well as their top seven choices in the following categories: mammal, bird, and reptile/amphibian/invertebrate/fish. The public was then asked to vote over a two-week period for their favorites in each of the categories.”
Over 6,000 votes were cast to determine this year’s winners.
The grand prize winner, as well as the top three finalists in each of the categories, can be viewed on the Chicago Zoological Society’s website.
