LANSING, Ill. (September 19, 2023) – If the bright red and yellow balloons didn’t garner attention, the unmistakable aroma of fried chicken in the air certainly did as September 16 marked the grand opening of a Chicago’s Chicken Shack franchise at 3224 Ridge Road.
Although a ribbon cutting with the Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce was not scheduled until September 20, those who came on the 16th were able to enjoy entertainment provided by a dj and be the first to sample the tasty treats.
Chicken, fish, and shrimp franchise
Shatira LaRose is the CEO and creator of the restaurant chain that she said became a licensed franchise across the U.S. in March.
“This will be the seventh location opened since then,” LaRose said.
She said the first store opened in Arizona and the goal is to eventually have 500 locations.
“We sell chicken, fish and shrimp,” LaRose said.
And all three can be sampled by purchasing the Taste Of The Shack, which comes with the brand’s own secret seasoning, along with bread, coleslaw, and fries.
LaRose said fried pickles are normally found at sit-down restaurants, but they’re available at this location, which offers take-out only service.
“Most awesome customer service”
The sister duo of Varine Hampton and Tilena Watts are co-owners of the new store in Lansing.
“One of our main purposes is to bring a delicious product to the community that tastes good, that’s well prepared and that’s also done with the awesome, and most awesome, customer service,” Hampton said.
Watts said she and her sister researched the company and decided on the Lansing location, which formerly housed a Harold’s Chicken Shack restaurant.
“We wanted to bring something great and fresh to this area,” Watts said.
Watts said people had been knocking on the door to find out when the restaurant would open.
“People have said they’re looking for some good fried chicken, so now they have it,” Watts said.

Lansing location
Located next door to the new restaurant is the S. L Wine Bar, which is owned by Hampton’s daughter and son-in-law.
Lansing Village Administrator Dan Podgorski said perhaps the two businesses can benefit each other.
“Hopefully they create a nice little synergy over there in that building, that center,” Podgorski said.
