Monday, August 21

Lan-Oak Park District Board meeting

Tuesday, August 22

Memorial Jr. High Back to School Bash

Time: 3 – 5 p.m.

Location: Memorial Jr. High School, 2721 Ridge Road
Lansing

The Memorial Jr. High community is invited to a back to school event in the parking lot of the school.

District 215 Board meeting

Time: 6 p.m.

Wednesday, August 23

Pop-up Pantry

Time: 9:30 a.m.

Location: Mt. Zion UFL Center, 2340 177th Street, Lansing (708-394-3555)

Mt. Zion UFL Center partners with Illinois Partners In Hope to distribute a variety of donated food once or twice a week. These pop-up pantries are open to anyone, and no ID is required.

Crochet & Knitting Group

Time: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Bring your own supplies and learn some techniques. This is not a library-sponsored group, but it meets in the library’s Brick Room.

Shrinky Dinks – Teen Library event

Time: 1 – 2 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, lower level,
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Students in grades 6-12 are invited to make their own “Shrinky Dinks” at the Lansing Library. “We’ll trace designs, color, and draw on the Shrink film, then watch them transform in the oven,” says an online description of the event. Register here.

Family Bingo/Lotería

Time: 5:30 – 6 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Community Room,
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Families are invited to the Library to play Bingo and take their chances on winning a tasty treat. Register here.


Thursday, August 24

Library on the Go

Time: 4:30 – 6 p.m.

Weather permitting, the library’s book bike will be riding around the community, giving families easy access to books and services.

  • 4:30–5 p.m. – Lan-Oak Park

  • 5–5:30 p.m. – El Encanto Food Truck

  • 5:30–6 p.m. – Schultz Park

Trivia at Kasey’s

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Trivia with Nick At Night Entertainment happens every week on Thursdays. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Nick will start the show around 7 p.m.


Friday, August 25

Crochet & Knitting Group

Morning Movie: 65

Time: 10 – 11:45 a.m

Concession items will be available for a morning Library showing of 65, a PG-13 action movie starring Adam Driver.

Kasey’s Karaoke

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Karaoke with Joe Sibley takes place every week on Fridays at Kasey’s Banquet Hall.

One of These Nights, The Brother Gibb, local art show – Friday Night Lights

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Fox Pointe, 18138 Henry Street, Lansing

Gates open for Fox Pointe’s combined Friday Night Lights dual concert and local art show at 6 p.m. The Brothers Gibb will take the stage at 7 p.m. while One of These Nights will go on at 9. Tickets are $10 online and $12 at the door.


Saturday, August 26

Blood drive at St. John’s Lutheran Church

Time: 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Location: St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18100 Wentworth Avenue, Lansing

Donate blood at St John’s Church by signing up for a time at vitalant.org.

Car Show at Phillips Chevrolet

Time: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Location: 180th and Torrence Avenue, Lansing

In collaboration with Phillips Chevrolet, LACE is hosting its final car show of the summer. Special awards will be distributed during the event. The car entrance fee is $20, and registration is from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Salud Nutrition: Diabetes 101

Time: 12 – 1 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Community Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“We will discuss what is diabetes, the types of diabetes, target blood sugars, and how to treat high and low blood sugars,” says the Library website. Register here.

Speed dating at Kasey’s

Time: 4:30 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

“Halfway to Mardi Gras” at Kasey’s Beer Garden

Time: 7 p.m. (Doors open at 5 p.m.)

“Zydeco VooDoo” is playing at 7 p.m., and “Crawfish boil, beads, bands and a VooDoo Daquiri” will be features all night at the free event.
