Career opportunities for those who complete the program include but are not limited to: electrician, iron worker, pipefitter, carpenter, laborer, and equipment operator.

Summer and fall program start dates

The application process begins at the mandatory one-hour informational orientation followed directly by assessment testing. Orientation and assessment testing for the fall will take place between August 9 and August 11, 2022, with a start date of Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

Program goals

A goal of the SSC HCCTP is to increase the number of minorities, women, and veterans working in Illinois highway construction. The HCCTP is funded through a partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), thus allowing the tuition to be waived. While enrolled, students will be paid a stipend of $10 per hour for each full hour of training completed.
