TF South hosts ‘Futures Night’ for incoming freshman

LANSING, Ill. (May 3, 2024) – TF South High School has started preparing families for the upcoming school year. On April 30, the institution hosted its annual orientation and open house for future freshmen to learn more about the school including academics, athletics, and clubs.

TF South counselor Angela Shama said all students at Futures Night are enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year.

Over 100 students and parents attended the event in preparation for the fall semester.

Futures Night

On Tuesday, TF South staff and current students welcomed future freshmen with open arms. Staff and administrators were also available throughout the evening to meet with parents and students to answer questions.

The evening began with student orientation in the Dr. Henry L. Hertz auditorium.

During the orientation, an administrator from each department gave a detailed presentation with information to help prepare for the first day of school including the course selection process. John O’Rourke, Assistant Principal for Pupil Personnel Services at TF South, stressed the importance of the school’s core beliefs: wellness, academics, attendance, and graduation.

“Families should understand when your student adopts these mantras in their head over the four years, they are going to graduate,” O’Rourke said. “Diploma equals a future and equals opportunities.”

Afterward, O’Rourke advised students and parents to stay for a tour of the building to get a better understanding of the layout.

Families then moved to the open house portion of the night. They were broken into smaller groups led by student ambassadors for a tour including the cafeteria, activities office, driver’s ed classroom, and weight room. The ambassadors gave future students an insight into the school’s culture and student life.

Later in the evening, guests and staff moved to the school’s two gymnasiums where students visited a variety of tables showcasing TF South’s academics, clubs, and athletics. Tables for academics and clubs were set up in the red gym while the gray gym housed the school’s athletic teams.
