LANSING, Ill. (February 17, 2022) – The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for the Lansing region until 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Rain combined with runoff from melting snow will impact low-lying and poor-drainage areas. Temperatures are forecast to fall throughout the day, from a rainy 46 degrees at 12:30 a.m. to a snowy 19 degrees by 11 p.m.

The National Weather Service also issued a winter storm warning from 3 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday. “After a lull in wintry precipitation for much of Thursday morning, heavy snow is expected to develop Thursday afternoon into early Thursday evening,” reads the alert, which was issued Wednesday evening. “Total snow accumulations of 3 to 8 inches expected, highest south of the Illinois and Kankakee rivers. Ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch expected.”

Thursday afternoon could see snowfall rates greater than one inch per hour. In addition, north winds gusting 40–45 mph will result in low visibility. Power outages are a possibility as tree limbs and power lines succumb to the heavy snow and high winds.
