Holiday events in Lansing: An updated list

LANSING, Ill. (December 9, 2021) – After a year of cancellations in 2020, many local organizations are excited to get back to hosting fun and festive holiday events this year.

The updated list below includes Christmas and other holiday events The Lansing Journal compiled through phone calls, emails, and Facebook searches. If your organization is hosting an event not included in this list, please fill out our holiday event form so we can include your event.

This page is the second version of this post, and it will continue to be updated and re-published as needed to reflect the most accurate information.

Holiday events in Lansing and the surrounding area

Ongoing

  • Letters to Santa and Christmas decorations: A local family is hosting a mailbox to Santa at their residence at 17427 Greenbay Avenue. Santa will write back to those who provide a return address with their letter. This residence is also a drop-off location for the Helmets for Cody Toy Drive, which distributes toys to local hospitals.
  • Santa’s Mailbox at the Lan-Oak Park District: December 16 is the final day for Lansing youth ages 12 and under to drop a special letter to Santa in his mailbox in the lobby of the Eisenhower Center. Authors that include their return address will receive a letter in return. Drop-off is available during business hours only. The Eisenhower Center is located at 2550 178th Street.

Friday, December 10

  • Santa House: Santa House is open from 6 – 8 p.m.

Saturday, December 11

  • Men of A-Chord’s “Christmas Candlelight Musicale”: The local men’s choral group will perform at 7 p.m. at Oak Glen United Reformed Church, located at 2244 Indiana Avenue in Lansing.
  • Santa House: Santa House is open from 12 – 3 p.m.

Sunday, December 12

  • Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass: St. Ann Catholic Church will host an Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass at 1 p.m. St. Ann Church is located at 3010 Ridge Road in Lansing.
  • Winter Craft Fair: Hosted at the American Legion, this craft fair will include shirts, signs, tumblers, candles, baked goods, and other items. The fair runs from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and is located at 18255 Grant Street.

Monday, December 13

  • Lan-Oak Park District’s Deck the House contest: December 13 is the final day to register for the Park District’s house decorating contest. Registered houses must be in Lansing and will be judged on Thursday, December 16 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. First, second, and third place winners will be announced on Friday, December 17. The contest is free to join, and registration is available online. Program #350115 (01).

Friday, December 17

  • Santa House: Santa House is open from 6 – 9 p.m.

Saturday, December 18

  • Shop Saturday at Bloom Township: Bloom Township is hosting a shopping event running from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Vendors are still welcome to apply through December 10 by emailing [email protected]. The shopping event will include arts and crafts, clothing, shoes, toys, games, and other items. The event is located at 425 S. Halsted Street in Chicago Heights.
  • Santa House: Santa House is open from 12 – 3 p.m.
