215 Superintendent recommends remote learning with a gradual return to campus throughout semester
By Josh Bootsma
LANSING, Ill. (December 14, 2020) – Thornton Fractional High School District 215 is set to vote on a third quarter learning plan during its board meeting on December 15. The decision will determine how the district—which includes TF South High School—will conduct learning operations through March 12. TF South students and teachers have been learning and teaching remotely since the beginning of the school year.
Superintendent and Principal comments
Included in the Board packet for Tuesday night’s meeting is a memo from District 215 Superintendent Dr. Sophia Jones-Redmond to the board recommending that it adopt a previously discussed learning option, which “tentatively brings staff to the buildings Feb. 16, brings students limited to parameters to be specified such as IEP, membership in a particular program, etc. on March 2, and potentially begins to bring additional students to the buildings in a limited capacity March 15–May 12.”
In an email to the TF South community on Monday morning, Principal Jake Gourley said, “Given the continued community spread of Covid-19, it is extremely likely that we will begin 2nd semester in continued remote learning status. Robust plans have been made for a gradual return to in-person learning in phases for small groups once it is determined to be safe for students, staff, and families and I promise to keep you updated as the situation unfolds.”
