LANSING, Ill. (April 24, 2019) – Dan and Susan Bovino decided not to wait until next Saturday’s Community Clean-Up Day to begin cleaning up their community. Armed with grabbers and buckets, they took a walk along Ridge Road, picking up litter and disposing of it properly.

It’s all about the details, says Dan Bovino as he cleans up a doorway on Ridge Road. (Photo: Melanie Jongsma)
In the parking lot near the northeast corner of Burnham and Ridge, Dan explains that one of the reasons he and Susan are cleaning up today is because Jeff White’s Local History Class will be visiting Ridge Road tonight, and they want the area to look nice for visitors. (Photo: Melanie Jongsma)

On Saturday, they will be at it again, along with hundreds of others who have signed up for the 10th Annual Community Clean-Up Day.

Others interested in joining the movement to keep Lansing clean can still register for next Saturday’s activities. Registration helps the Village provide enough trash bags and recycling bags, and it ensures there is enough food at the free lunch provided for Clean-Up Day volunteers.

Having finished the north side of Ridge Road, the Bovinos cross at Burnham to start working on the south side. On Saturday, they will join a larger group that has been assigned to clean up the field behind the old PetSmart building. (Photo: Melanie Jongsma)
