Goslings, ‘They grow up so fast!’

LANSING, Ill. (June 30, 2024) – “I wanted to send these photos of a geese family I have been watching on my lunch break walks,” wrote Dr. Camilla Joe, OD.

Joe is an optometrist with SVS Vision in 2 River Place. A retention pond near the cul-de-sac west of her office attracted a Canada Geese couple that soon expanded into a family.

“I have observed them since they were baby goslings back in April,” she says. “They grow up so fast! Now they are almost full-grown adults with all their mature feathers and coloring, like their parents.”

Canada Geese (sometimes called Canadian Geese) are native to North America. Able to adapt to human-altered areas, the Canada goose is often found on or near fresh water. The breed has no natural predators and can be territorial and aggressive toward other animals and humans. It is often considered a pest species.
