South Shore Arts family workshop will celebrate Juneteenth on June 18

MUNSTER, Ind. (June 12, 2024) – South Shore Arts is offering a free family workshop celebrating Juneteenth on Tuesday, June 18, from 5 – 8 p.m. at The Center for Visual and Performing Arts in Munster.

Families and individuals of all ages are welcome to participate in commemorating and delving into the rich tapestry of Juneteenth’s history through engaging and innovative activities. Come together to celebrate this significant milestone with creativity and unity, as South Shore Arts honors the past and embraces the future.

The family workshop will include a number of creative activities. Participants will add ink through various techniques to finish a portrait of an important historical figure, listen to an African inspirational short story and discuss African American paintings, create a culture collage by layering colorful papers into a work of art, and make a heritage painting to celebrate a portrait that reflects freedom.

This workshop is free, attendees are asked to register on South Shore Arts website, southshoreartsonline.org or call Director of Education, Jessica Corral at 219-836-1838 x 101.

The Center for Visual and Performing Arts is located at 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana.
