Memorial Sunday service relocating to Ford Hangar due to weather

Sunday, May 26, 2 p.m.

LANSING, Ill. (May 26, 2024) – Today’s Memorial Sunday service will still take place at 2 p.m., but weather concerns will move it into the Ford Hangar, confirmed Rich Dominiak of the Lansing Veterans Memorial Ceremonial Honor Guard.

The Memorial Sunday service is a Lansing tradition, always scheduled for 2 p.m. on the Sunday before Memorial Day. the Lansing Veterans Memorial Ceremonial Honor Guard organizes and hosts the event.

Typically the service takes place outdoors at the Lansing Veterans Memorial, at the southeast corner of Glenwood-Lansing Road and Burnham Avenue. Thunderstorms and lightning are in today’s forecast on and off throughout the day.

The Ford Hangar is located adjacent to the memorial.

A program was not provided for this year’s service, but the typical service includes raising the American Flag, singing the national anthem, speeches, presentation of casket flags, placement of wreaths, and a rifle salute. Adjustments may need to be made for an indoor ceremony.

The address for the Ford Hangar is 3239 Glenwood Lansing Rd, Lansing, Illinois.
