Obituary Pat Batterson

Patricia Marie Batterson (nee Mertka) 89 years young, of Lansing, IL, (formerly of Roseland) quietly left us behind. She is survived by her two proudest accomplishments, her son Thomas Batterson of Lowell, IN, and her daughter Bonnie (Jim) Cuthbert of Lansing, IL. Spoiled more than her children were her grandchildren, Daniel Cuthbert and Stephanie Batterson (Austin Sill). Her biggest disappointment was not being able to stay until July to meet Stephanie’s daughter, Pat’s great-granddaughter, Silvia Marie. She is survived by her constant canine companion Chico, her beloved neighbors on Villa Ct, her favorite cousins Tom Babbitt and Barbara Dewey, and her lifelong friends Bebe Surdell and Evelyn and Harry Nelson. Pat was preceded in death by her husband David and her grandson Kevin Cuthbert.

Pat devoted many years of loyal secretarial service to various local companies including State Farm Insurance and Anderson Trucking. She was an avid bowler, crocheted and knitted, loved flowers and gardening, and was famous for her 4th of July gatherings. For several years, Pat was the secret “Christmas Lady” for the Lansing Food Pantry, delighting in the joy her assembled baskets brought to the recipients. Pat’s three favorite things in life were Chico, McDonald’s Mocha Frappes and Skinny Pop White Cheddar popcorn, we’re just not sure in what order (probably Chico first). Fiercely independent, striving to live life under her own terms, Pat touched many lives and her influence will be felt for many years to come.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, April 12, 2024 at All Souls Catholic Parish (St. Ann Catholic Church), 3010 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following with Father Mark Kalema officiating. Patricia will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois. Patricia was loved by many and she will be truly missed. Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home has be entrusted with the arrangements and care of Mrs. Batterson.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lansing Food Pantry and Humane Indiana would be greatly appreciated.
