Obituary Nancy Ann Highland

Nancy Ann Highland, age 74, of Lansing, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, in Bolingbrook, Illinois. She was born on June 7, 1949, in Hammond, Indiana, to the late Ernest and Loretta Johnson (nee Gilcrest). Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Highland, her devoted children, Terri Campos (Juan), Jay Highland (Cristina (nee Arroyo)), and Ryan Highland. She was a cherished grandmother to Leah and Gabriela Highland. Nancy is also survived by her brothers, Robert Johnson and Neil Johnson (Abaua) and was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Nancy’s commitment to nurturing young minds was evident in her pursuit of a B.S. in Elementary Education from Indiana University and teaching second grade at Saint Ann School before the arrival of her children. Her spirit of volunteerism was evident through her roles as a Band Mom, Pit Crew member, and Chaperone, as well as her service as Treasurer for the Lansing Historical Society. She also contributed her time and energy to the Brownies and the Parent Teacher Association.

The Highland family welcomes friends and loved ones to pay their respects at Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois, on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A service to commemorate Nancy’s life, followed by an opportunity for friends to share remembrances, will take place on Wednesday, February 14, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Nancy’s name to The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
