Obituary: Lugene Aldon ‘Archie’ Bazuin

July 30, 1926 – January 12, 2024

Obituary Rev. Archie Bazuin

God is so good. On January 12, 2024, Lugene Bazuin, age 97, was called to glory. Lugene was born July 30, 1926, in Mc Bain, MI. At the age of 17 he was called by God to be a minister. He graduated Calvin College in 1947 and Calvin Theological Seminary 1950. He went on to pastor churches in Iowa, Illinois, Colorado, and Indiana. He faithfully shepherded his congregations and encouraged them in their walk with the Lord. He traveled to many U.S. states, Africa, and South America as he was a sought-out guest speaker, a pastor to fellow pastors, and encouraging friend to missionaries.

He loved to share the love and grace of God through Jesus Christ in his beautiful sermons, often ending with a simple invitation calling his listeners to a life of faith in the Lord. His beautiful comforting voice will be missed by all who knew him.

He was a loving husband and constant faithful companion to his sweetheart Ellie (Jansma) for 75 blessed years; caring brother to Duke (Marilyn) Bazuin; in-laws Jack (Betty) Smedema and Nancy (Lee) Jansma; supportive and loving father to Dan (Theresa) Bazuin, Lou Anne (Bart) Sybenga, and Mary (Rich) Doornbos. He dearly loved his 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He prayed for his “wonderful family” everyday.

Preceded in death by parents John and Winnie (Schripsema) Bazuin; beloved stepmother Effie (Schripsema) Bazuin; brother Bill (Joann) Bazuin; sister Wilma (Don) De Young; sisters-in-law Betty (Jack) Smedema, Joann (Bill) Bazuin, and Marilyn (Duke) Bazuin; brothers-in-law Don (Wilma) De Young and Lee (Nancy) Jansma; nieces Carrie Bazuin and Dawn De Young; infant son Thomas Lee Bazuin; infant grandson Samuel Aslan Doornbos.

Rev. Bazuin will be laid to rest on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Munster Christian Reformed Cemetery, Munster, Indiana, with a private family burial. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at Munster Church, 214 Ridge Road, Munster, with services immediately following with Pastor Jim Hollendoner officiating. Services will be livestreamed on the Munster Church website. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Lansing Christian School, Roseland Christian Ministries, or The William J. Riley Memorial Residence Hospice, Munster, Indiana. Rev. Bazuin was loved by many, and he will be truly missed by all.
