‘I don’t think I’m a subscriber’

LANSING, Ill. (December 13, 2023) – “I love reading the Journal every day,” a woman told me last weekend. “I see it on Facebook, and I also get it in my email, but I don’t think I’m a subscriber because I never pay anything.”

I explained that if she’s getting the email, she is, in fact, a subscriber, but subscriptions are free.

“Then how do you stay in business?” she asked. “I mean, you do such a good job, you really do! But where do you get the money?”

The answer: We depend on reader support.

It’s really not free

The Lansing Journal is really not free. We give it away for free, but it costs us money to produce.

If you, like this woman, have been reading The Lansing Journal every day, learning about what’s going on in your community, enjoying the benefits of being informed and connected — you’ve been benefitting from other people’s support.

The reality is, we need your support too:

Perfect timing

And now is the perfect time to sign up as a Monthly Supporter! The Lansing Journal has received a special matching gift that will give us $100 for each new Monthly Supporter (up to 50) who signs up before the end of the year.

So by signing up, you actually help us twice.

You don’t have to give $100 for us to get $100

Any level of monthly gift qualifies for the the match. You choose the monthly amount that works for you, and The Lansing Journal will receive an extra $100 because of you.

Another option

If you can’t commit to monthly right now, would you give a one-time year-end gift? Your one-time gift won’t be matched, but you’ll still be supporting our local news coverage, and that’s a big help:

She signed up; we got $100

The woman I was talking with last weekend? She signed up. And her decision was matched with $100. So she feels good about that, AND she feels good about supporting the newspaper she reads every day.

Will you do your part too?

Become a Monthly Supporter at any level. Your decision will be matched with an extra $100, and your continuing monthly support will help this free community newspaper keep serving our community.
