Things to do in Lansing this week – December 11 edition

LANSING, Ill. (December 10, 2023) – The items listed below are public events compiled from a variety of community sources. They represent a diversity of ways to be involved this week.


Monday, December 11

Christmas Around the World

Time: Various

Location: Lansing Historical Society Museum, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing.

This annual exhibit shows over 30 Christmas trees and highlights holiday traditions from around the world. It’s open through January 6, but is closed on December 23 – 25, and December 30 – January 1. The exhibit is open Monday – Thursday, 6 – 8 p.m. and Saturdays, 12 – 3 p.m.

Fox Pointe Daily Tree viewing

Time: 3 – 8 p.m. from December 3 – 30 (weather permitting)

Location: Fox Pointe, 18138 Henry Street, Lansing

Fox Pointe Holiday trees will be on display throughout December. The exhibit will not be available on December 24 and 25.

Hungry Brain

Time: 4 – 5 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Teen Island, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Join us for an enlightening discussion of current events, science and philosophy. We’ll watch videos and then share your thoughts with the group in our monthly meetings.” For grades 6–12. Register here.


Tuesday, December 12

Coffee Break

Time: 10:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Made with our French press, enjoy the freshest coffee around for free. Join us for a chat or grab and go!”

Gentle Tai-Chi and Meditation

Time: 12 – 1 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Community Room, 2750 Indiana Avenue.

“Start your afternoons strong with the right mindset. Instructor Brian Thompson from BNew4Life teaches gentle Tai-Chi & Meditation to help you stay focused, alert, and anxiety free!”

Free blood pressure and glucose screenings

Time: 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Municipal Center, 3141 Ridge Road, Lansing

The Lansing Fire Department will offer monthly health checks on the second Tuesday of each month at the Lansing Municipal Center.

Greek Mythology Jeopardy

Time: 4 – 5 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Teen Island, 2750 Indiana Avenue.

“Test your knowledge and challenge your friends as you journey through 5 different categories about the gods and goddesses.” For grades 6-12. Register here.

Holiday band concert

Time: 5 p.m.

Wednesday, December 13

Pop-up pantry

Time: 9:30 a.m.

Location: Mt. Zion UFL Center, 2340 177th Street, Lansing (708-394-3555)

Mt. Zion UFL Center partners with Illinois Partners In Hope to distribute a variety of donated food once or twice a week. These pop-up pantries are open to anyone, and no ID is required.

Crochet & knitting group

Time: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Bring your own supplies and learn some techniques from this talented group!”

Book page art

Time: 4 – 5 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Teen Island, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Making crafts out of book pages can make beautiful art projects. We’ll upcycle old books and newspapers and maybe do a little reading in the process. Warning: Books will be harmed in the making of this craft.” For grades 6–12. Register here.

Free ‘n Fun Bingo at Kasey’s

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

“Folks can play in the lounge or restaurant and it’s completely free. Prizes are awarded to the winner of each bingo game. Food is available for purchase.”

Holiday choir and band concert

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Location: TF South, Red Gym, 18500 Burnham Avenue, Lansing

“The TF South Band and Choir program are hosting a combined holiday concert this year! This is a free event, and all are welcome to join us.”

Thursday, December 14

A Journey to Unseen Worlds exhibit: First Life

Time: 12 – 4 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, stage, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Take a quick adventure back millions of years ago to see the first life on our planet! This exhibit will be only available for one day only. You won’t want to miss this!”

Korean Culture Club

Time: 4:30 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Teen Island, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“Back by popular demand! Make photocards of your favorite K-Pop stars, sample Korean snacks, and way more!” For grades 6-12. Register here.

Trivia at Kasey’s

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Trivia with Nick At Night Entertainment happens every week on Thursdays. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Nick will start the show around 7 p.m.

Senior Bingo

Choose Your Own Holiday Craft Adventure

Time: 10 – 4 p.m.

For all families: “Drop in and create a craft for a December holiday of your choice.”

Santa House open

Time: 12 – 3 p.m.

Location: Fox Pointe north lawn, 18138 Henry Street, Lansing

Families are invited to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and share their wish lists.

Beach Boys tribute at Kasey’s

Time: 5 – 10 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Advance tickets ($60) are required for this event, which includes a buffet dinner, a cash bar, raffles, and the Sounds of Summer — a Beach Boys tribute band.
