Things to do in Lansing this week – November 6 edition

LANSING, Ill. (November 5, 2023) – The items listed below are public events compiled from a variety of community sources. They represent a diversity of ways to be involved this week.


Monday, November 6

Spice Club

Time: All month long

Location: Lansing Library, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

The online description for this program says, “Spice up your cooking! Register each month to receive a sample of a new spice along with an info card, delicious recipes, and more. Pick up at the Info Desk. Please register for each month separately.”

Covid/Flu clinic

Time: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Location: Lansing Library, Community Room, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

CIMPAR will be at the Lansing Library to help local patients be prepared for winter with COVID and flu shots.

Coding Club

Time: 4 – 5 p.m.

Location: Lansing Library, Teen Island, 2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Students in grades 6 – 12 are invited to learn to code in this combined-series event. Register here.


Tuesday, November 7

Don’t Share That! Steps on Staying Socially Safe

Time: 10 – 11 a.m.

Coffee Break

Anime Club

Wednesday, November 8

Pop-up Pantry

Time: 9:30 a.m.

Location: Mt. Zion UFL Center, 2340 177th Street, Lansing (708-394-3555)

Mt. Zion UFL Center partners with Illinois Partners In Hope to distribute a variety of donated food once or twice a week. These pop-up pantries are open to anyone, and no ID is required.

Crochet & Knitting Group

Time: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Brick Room
2750 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

Bring your own supplies and learn some techniques. This is not a library-sponsored group, but it meets in the library’s Brick Room.

Doodling Art Hour

Time: 4 – 5 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, Teen Island

“Feeling a little stressed? Then come join us for some relaxing drawing activities that all start with dots, lines, curses, and even circles. The outcome will amaze you! By the end of the hour, you will be in touch with your inner artist and de-stressed.” For grades 6 – 12. Register here.

Mi Casita Bilingual program

VR – A Journey to Unseen Worlds Exhibit: Great Barrier Reef

Time: 12 – 4 p.m.

“Take a quick adventure to the Great Barrier Reef using VR technology! This exhibit will be only available for one day only. You won’t want to miss this!”

Lansing Human Relations Commission meeting

Time: 6 p.m.

The Lansing Human Relations Commission meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month.

Trivia at Kasey’s

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Trivia with Nick At Night Entertainment happens every week on Thursdays. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Nick will start the show around 7 p.m.


Friday, November 10

Meet Lansing’s Animal Control Officer and the South Suburban Humane Society

Time: 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Location: Lansing Courtroom, 2710 170th Street, Lansing

“Get to know your animal control officer, learn your local pet ordinances, resources available, and enter a raffle for some pet gear!”

Library@Nite: Doug Horne and the Rhythm Makers Orchestra

Time: 6:30 – 8 p.m.

Location: Lansing Public Library, stage

“Come on out for this Pre-Veteran’s Day concert, and the first showing of the Library@Nite concert for the 2023-2024 series! We will be saluting those who have served, along with patriotic selections. We will also be playing selections associated with the “Greatest Generation” — those who lived and served during the WWII era. Come hear the music of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and others! Doors open at 6 p.m.”

Mamma Mia! musical at TF South

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: TF South High School, 18500 Burnham Avenue, Lansing

The TF South Alpha Players will be performing Mamma Mia! on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Tickets are $12, while students and children at $7. Tickets must be purchased in advance online.

Kasey’s Karaoke

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Kasey’s Banquet Hall and Lounge, 17800 Lorenz Avenue, Lansing

Karaoke with Joe Sibley takes place every week on Fridays at Kasey’s Banquet Hall.


Saturday, November 11

Veterans Day Pancake Breakfast

Time: 8 – 11 a.m.

Location: American Legion, 18255 Grant Street, Lansing

Lansing’s American Legion Auxiliary is partnering with the Lansing Copper Muggers for a pancake breakfast. The breakfast is $7 per person. Children under 3 eat free.

Mamma Mia! musical at TF South

Time: 2 p.m. matinee and 7 p.m.

Sunday, November 12

Veterans Day Ceremony

Time: 2 p.m.

Location: Lansing Veterans Memorial, corner of Burnham Avenue and Glenwood-Lansing Road

The Lansing Veterans Memorial Ceremonial Honor Guard will commemorate Veterans Day at 2 p.m. at the Lansing Veterans Memorial. All are welcome.

Am I Asking for Too Much? – Book Launch

Time: 3 p.m.

Location: Holiday Inn Express, 2323 172nd Street, Lansing

“This book provides reflective scenarios after the assumption that dating relationships within the church would not be the same as dating unsaved individuals. Sadly, to discover, from the pulpit to the parking lot, women have to have standards by which not to settle just to have a man, and learn how to be patient, trusting, and accepting of God’s best. With the hopes of reading familiar scenarios, women will see how they have chosen and accepted similar relationships and it should help them make a better future decision.”

Hymn Sing

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Location: Oak Glen United Reformed Church, 2244 Indiana Avenue, Lansing

“All post-high young adults are invited to a hymn sing to be held at Oak Glen URC on Sunday, November 12 following the evening service. We will have a time of light refreshments and fellowship beginning at 6:30 in the fellowship hall with singing in the sanctuary beginning at 7:30. You are welcome to attend the evening worship service beforehand which begins at 4:50. We hope to see you there!”
