Things to do in Lansing this week – July 10 edition

LANSING, Ill. (July 9, 2023) – The items listed below are all public events gathered from a variety of sources. They represent a diversity of ways to be involved in the community this week.

Monday, July 10

5:30–7:30 p.m. – Brides through the Decades

Mondays 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., through August 19
A summer exhibit at the Lansing Historical Society Museum, featuring photos and commentary about fashion trends and traditions through the eras.

6:30 p.m. – Crosstown Exotics Reptile Show

This library event will give patrons a chance to see and touch live animals such as turtle, pythons, and cockroaches.

Tuesday, July 11

1:30 – 2:30 p.m. – Free blood pressure and glucose screenings

The Lansing Fire Department offers monthly health checks on the second Tuesday of each month from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Wednesday, July 12

9:30–11:30 a.m. – Crochet & Knitting Group

Bring your own supplies and learn some techniques from this talented group! This is not a library-sponsored group, but it meets in the library’s Brick Room.

9:30 a.m. – Pop-Up Pantry

Mt. Zion UFL Center partners with Illinois Partners In Hope to distribute a variety of donated food once or twice a week. These pop-up pantries are open to anyone, and no ID is required.

10 – 11 a.m. – Morning Tai-Chi

Adults 18 and older are invited to start their summer mornings with peaceful Tai-Chi sessions on the library front lawn, with instructor Brian Thompson from BNew4Life.

1 – 2 p.m. – Senior Virtual Reality Exploration

Seniors can get a first-hand preview of the latest high-tech virtual reality experience, thanks to funding provided by AgeOptions.

5:30 – 7:30 p.m. – Realtor seminar

This realtor seminar at the library will teach patrons how to improve their credit scores, familiarize them with down payment programs, and teach other reale estate-related information. Presented by Kairos Real Estate.

6 p.m. – Hello Weekend at Fox Pointe

Fox Pointe’s free Wednesday night summer concert series continues with Hello Weekend. The Robby Celestin Duo will get the crowd going with an opening performance. Gates open at 6 p.m., with Hello Weekend taking the stage at 7:30.

Thursday, July 13

Trivia with Nick At Night Entertainment happens every week on Thursdays. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Nick will start the show around 7 p.m.

Karaoke with Joe Sibley takes place every week on Fridays at Kasey’s Banquet Hall.

8:30 – 10 p.m. – Super Mario Bros. showing – Library lawn

The public is invited to watch Super Mario Bros. on the front lawn of the library. Those coming should bring a lawn chair or blanket. The movie is rated PG and is an hour-and-a-half long.

Saturday, July 15

9 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Dog vaccine clinic

South Suburban Humane Society is hosting a drive-thru dog vaccine clinic at the Lansing Police Department. The cash-only clinic will offer Lansing residents’ dogs a 1-year rabies vaccines for $25, a distemper vaccine for $15, and a microchip for free. Dogs must be leashed and online registration is required.

10 a.m. – 3 p.m. – Library sensory exploration

“Squishy, powdery, flaky,wet, hard, soft, and downright interesting! Come explore items with your hands, ears, eyes, and noses,” says the Library’s website.

Doors open at 5 p.m. for the show that starts at 7 p.m. Food and drink is available for purchase.
