Things to do in Lansing this week – July 3 edition

LANSING, Ill. (July 2, 2023) – The items listed below are all public events gathered from a variety of sources. They represent a diversity of ways to be involved in the community this week.

Monday, July 3

5:30–7:30 p.m. – Brides through the Decades

Mondays 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., through August 19
A summer exhibit at the Lansing Historical Society Museum, featuring photos and commentary about fashion trends and traditions through the eras.

7:30 p.m. – Lan-Oak Park fireworks

Gates open at 7:30 p.m. for fireworks, with the show itself scheduled to start at 9:30. Lan-Oak Park will be fenced off with three entry points available: on Oakley Avenue, Arcadia Avenue, and 180th Street.

  • Lan-Oak Park is located near the intersection of 180th Street and Arcadia Avenue in Lansing.

Independence Day

9:30–11:30 a.m. – Crochet & Knitting Group

Bring your own supplies and learn some techniques from this talented group! This is not a library-sponsored group, but it meets in the library’s Brick Room.

9:30 a.m. – Pop-Up Pantry

Mt. Zion UFL Center partners with Illinois Partners In Hope to distribute a variety of donated food once or twice a week. These pop-up pantries are open to anyone, and no ID is required.

10 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. – Library escape room

Runs Wednesday, July 5 through Saturday, July 8

Using your skills and smarts, you must complete a set of challenges to get out of the library’s escape room. Sign up for a time here.

10:30 a.m. – Move with Sol

Offered to children ages 3-5 and their parents, this fun exercise session will use kid-friendly YouTube dance videos. Register here.

Thursday, July 6

12:30 p.m. – Pop-Up Pantry

Participants are invited to pick up a copy of Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt before the discussion.

7 p.m. – Trivia at Kasey’s

Trivia with Nick At Night Entertainment happens every week on Thursdays. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Nick will start the show around 7 p.m.

6 p.m. – Fox Pointe Friday Night Lights

Hairbangers Ball and Ultra Beat will play at Fox Pointe. Gates open at 6 with the first band to take the stage at 7. Admission is $10.

7 p.m. – Kasey’s karaoke

Karaoke with Joe Sibley takes place every week on Friday at Kasey’s Banquet Hall.

Saturday, July 8

9 a.m. – 1 p.m. – Friends of the Library Book Sale

The book sale is open to Members of the Friends of the Library group from 9–10, with access open to the general public at 10.

10 a.m. – 3 p.m. – Library sensory exploration

“Squishy, powdery, flaky,wet, hard, soft, and downright interesting! Come explore items with your hands, ears, eyes, and noses,” says the Library’s website.

The second cruise night of the summer will take place on Ridge Road.

7 p.m. – Latin Satin Soul at Kasey’s Beer Garden

Doors open at 5 p.m. for the show that starts at 7 p.m. Food and drink is available for purchase.
